Australian Ethical invests in the Infradebt Ethical Fund and Energy Transition Fund

Canberra, 7 November 2023 – Infradebt is pleased to announce Australian Ethical has made substantial investment commitments to the Infradebt Ethical Fund and Energy Transition Fund.

Infradebt’s flagship, Infradebt Ethical Fund is a screened infrastructure debt fund that provides finance to Australian infrastructure projects with a focus on renewable energy and social infrastructure. The fund offers both construction finance on greenfield projects and term finance on operating projects.

The Energy Transition Fund is dedicated to financing grid scale battery projects in Australia. The fund will provide senior debt finance to 6-8 battery projects with a total capacity of 1.5-2GW over the next few years. That is, the equivalent dispatchable capacity, spread over a number of projects, to a large coal fired power station.

The Energy Transition Fund’s first two investments are loans to the Neoen Capital Battery and Genex Bouldercombe BESS. The Neoen Capital Battery is a 100MW/200MWh battery project located in the Australian Capital Territory with funding provided by Infradebt and the Clean Energy Finance Corporation. The Genex Bouldercombe BESS is a 50MW/100MWh project located approximately 20km southwest of Rockhampton in Queensland.

Infradebt is Australia’s leading infrastructure project finance fund manager. Infradebt is active in the energy transition space with a focus on renewable energy, storage and decarbonising real assets. Infradebt has a strong track record having financed 44 energy transition assets since its founding in 2013.

Quote attributable to Alexander Austin, CEO of Infradebt:

“Infradebt is extremely pleased to welcome Australian Ethical into our funds. Decarbonising Australia’s electricity grid will require massive capital investment over the coming decades. Australian Ethical’s capital will help accelerate the energy transition.”

Ludovic Theau, CIO of Australian Ethical said:

“We are pleased to have crystallised a partnership with Infradebt to expand our investment strategies in renewable energy and storage. Australia’s energy transition is a core focus of our investment strategies as the world looks to meet net-zero carbon targets, and these Infradebt private debt funds enable us to further our aim.”
